30 Steps Toward Healing - Step 19: Awareness

“Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness”  James Thurber

Awareness is the ability to see or feel or be conscious of events that happen in our lives using our senses but it doesn’t necessarily mean we understand.

Self-awareness is the ability to be consciously aware of what we are doing and be able to explore that further.  During our healing this is what we need to be focusing on.  We can focus on developing a greater awareness of our bodies, our feelings and our thinking – all of which are critical in our healing.

With greater awareness we can expand and deepen our understanding of ourselves which in turn can help us to grow and move forward.

Attention is the intentional directing of awareness. We intend to direct our awareness onto our bodies, our minds, and our awareness itself. It’s like a cyclical loop. We use the awareness we currently have to focus attention on being alert and looking deeper.

Action: Bring to mind a recent situation that made an impact on you and explore your response and your emotions to build a greater awareness of yourself
